SRK’s Humble Gesture Amid KKR Dominant Win Over SRH
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) put on a remarkable display at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, propelling themselves into their fourth final with a commanding eight-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Topping the points table during the league stage, KKR’s bowlers laid the foundation by dismissing SRH for just 159. Venkatesh Iyer and Shreyas Iyer then effortlessly chased down the target in 13.4 overs with an unbeaten 97-run stand.
Choosing to bat first in Ahmedabad, where Pat Cummins had previously led Australia to an ODI World Cup victory, SRH stumbled early. Mitchell Starc’s fiery spell saw him claim three wickets with the new ball, including Travis Head’s dismissal for a duck in the second ball. Rahul Tripathi revived SRH’s innings with a quick 35-ball 55, forming a 62-run partnership with Heinrich Klaasen. However, KKR struck back, causing a dramatic collapse as SRH lost five wickets for 25 runs in just 30 balls. Cummins also contributed useful runs, helping SRH cross the 150-run mark.
In their chase, KKR lost both openers within the first seven overs but were anchored by Venkatesh Iyer and captain Shreyas Iyer, who both scored fifties. Their partnership ensured KKR reached the 160-run target with 38 balls to spare, demonstrating their batting prowess and composure.
Following the victory, KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan, along with his daughter Suhana and son AbRam, celebrated with a lap around the stadium to greet fans. This spontaneous gesture inadvertently interrupted JioCinema’s IPL 2024 Hindi broadcast being filmed live on the ground.
Realizing the disruption, Shah Rukh quickly apologized to former Indian cricketers Aakash Chopra, Parthiv Patel, and Suresh Raina, who were hosting the show. He hugged each of them and apologized to the viewers before continuing his lap. Suhana was seen carefully navigating around the cameras, holding AbRam’s hand.
Aakash Chopra, smiling, commented on Shah Rukh’s unintended entrance, saying, “Oh, what a man! Legend! He didn’t even realize he walked into the show. He was very apologetic, but I said, ‘You made our day. You are the showstopper.’”
The match highlighted KKR’s impressive form and showcased the sportsmanship and humility of their star co-owner, adding a special moment to their IPL 2024 journey.
